Anthropic Certifications Overview (2026)

The landscape

As of July 2026, Anthropic offers four certification exams across three roles (Associate, Developer, Architect) and two tiers (Foundations, Professional). All four share the same delivery and scoring machinery — memorize the shared rules once, then learn each exam's domains.

Shared mechanics (all four exams)

Delivery — Pearson VUE, either OnVUE (online proctored from home/office) or physical test centers.
Length — 120 minutes for every exam.
Scoring — criterion-referenced scaled scoring on a 100–1,000 scale with a 720 cut score. Criterion-referenced means you pass by clearing a fixed competency bar, not by beating other candidates; scaled means raw scores are statistically adjusted so different exam forms are comparable.
Validity — credentials are valid for 12 months.
Renewal — a free, non-proctored renewal assessment, available if you renew on time (before expiry). Lapse and you're back to a full proctored exam at full price.

Retake policy

Waiting periods — after a fail: 14 days before attempt 2, 30 days before attempt 3, 90 days before attempt 4.
Attempt cap — maximum 4 attempts per rolling 12 months.
Each attempt is paid separately — plan preparation accordingly rather than treating attempt 1 as reconnaissance.

History and timeline

Early Jul 2026	Exam delivery moved to Pearson VUE (previously Skilljar-hosted proctoring).
Jul 8, 2026	CCAO-F, CCDV-F, CCAR-P announced at Claude Partner Network Connect; CCAR-F repriced to $125 to match the other Foundations-tier developer/architect exams.

Choosing your exam

You use Claude at work but don't write API code → CCAO-F. It explicitly targets productivity-tool users and escalates API-level work to the other tracks.
You build applications on the Claude API / Agent SDK / Claude Code → CCDV-F.
You design Claude-based solutions and lead integrations → CCAR-F first; it's the scenario-heavy architecture foundation.
You own production LLM architecture at a senior level → CCAR-P, the only Professional-tier exam, and the deepest on governance, evaluation, and stakeholder work.

The tiers are independent — no exam formally requires another — but the Foundations → Professional progression within the Architect track is the intended path.

Exam-day quick facts

120 minutes, so budget ~2 min/question on CCAO-F/CCAR-F (60 Q), slightly more on CCDV-F (53 Q) and CCAR-P (63 Q).
Scaled scoring means you can't compute a live "percent correct" target; aim for mastery of the heavier-weighted domains listed in each exam note.
OnVUE requires a webcam room scan, cleared desk, and government ID — same rigor as AWS/Azure proctoring.
